Easter fun for Briardene Primary

Local resident with the help of DUT students brighten pupils Easter weekend.

THE children of Briardene Primary School were spoilt with an early Easter treat last week as Durban North resident, Janice Benecke, showed up with more than 20 boxes of Easter eggs and over 900 hotdogs. She was joined by the Easter Bunny as well as students from Durban University of Technology (DUT), who donated stationery, sanitary hampers and books for the school’s library.

The PinkDrive ambassador said she normally visits underprivileged areas, and in recent years also schools to give back to the community.

“I’ve dedicated my whole life to giving back and helping others. This is the second year I’ve held an Easter event with the children at the school. They love it and are always smiling and singing, which is incredibly heartwarming. I asked a number of Facebook friends to donate funds and Easter eggs so we could put on a show for the pupils. I’m so grateful for the involvement of the DUT students, who made sure everyone had a fun time,” Benecke said.

Lenny Bowes, principal of Briardene Primary, said his pupils were thrilled with the visit.

“For many of the pupils, this will be the only Easter egg they will get over this period. It’s such a privilege to have Janice and the students, who have taken time to give back to the pupils. There’s just a fantastic vibe and atmosphere, and I’d like to thank everyone who supported this initiative,” Bowes said.
