Two shot after armed robbery

Armed robbers got more than they bargained for after a stake-out led to their arrest.

TWO suspects were shot and wounded during a dramatic shootout on the M25 bridge near the N2 on-ramp earlier this afternoon. Members from the Greenwood Park SAPS were on a stake-out when they spotted two suspects who had just been involved in an armed robbery. The M25 bridge has been a hotspot in terms of smash-and-grabs and robberies in recent months.

Police gave chase and a shootout ensued. Police wounded both suspects, one of whom was shot in the buttocks, while the other was shot in the leg.

There were no injuries to the police and a firearm used by the suspects was recovered. According to Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical, the suspects were taken to hospital for further care.

The men will be charged with armed robbery.
