THE deceased victim who was found in the boot burnt out car outside of Malacca Road Informal Settlement one week ago has been identified.Local media have named the victim as Rodney Antony Paul who lived on the beachfront in Durban Sands.Greenwood Park SAPS spokesperson, W/O Leon Audh, would not confirm the identity of the victim, but formally stated that the family has identified the body of the 53-year-old male.It is believed that Paul’s identity was confirmed via medical and dental records, but Audh was unable to confirm. “Investigations are underway, but we are unable to release the information to the media,” he said.

It has been a week since police discovered Paul’s body, charred beyond recognition,  stuffed into the boot of burning VW Polo in Red Hill. Residents from the informal settlement spotted the flames at around 7pm and informed the authorities. When the flames were doused and the shell of a vehicle inspected, police found the charred remains.

Last week Audh confirmed that Paul had been shot execution-style. He said the victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and the hands were tied behind the back.

According to Audh, the car had been stolen in Sydenham in August last year.
