Blaze destroys 12 shacks in Sea Cow Lake, kills two.

A MOTHER and son were tragically killed when a fire ripped through the Sea Cow Lake informal settlement. The blaze, which started about 11.55pm, destroyed 12 shacks. KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert McKenzie, said the cause of the fire was not known.

“When paramedics from KZN EMS and fighters from eThekwini Fire Department arrived on scene, they found that at least 12 informal dwellings were on fire. Fire fighters managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

“It was then discovered that sadly two people had passed away in the fire. Initial investigations are that the victims are a mother (53) and her son (25). The exact circumstances resulting in the blaze are not known at this stage and are being investigated,” he said.
