The pedestrian sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

A PEDESTRIAN was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the M19 (Umgeni Road) earlier this morning.

The man, believed to be in his thirties, was killed while attempting to cross the busy road this morning, said Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene of the M19 west-bound, close to the new interchange, to find the man lying in the road, having sustained traumatic injuries,” he said.

He had sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

According to Van Reenen, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

“The scene was handed over to the South African Police Services and an investigation is underway. Traffic was severely affected as the right-hand lane was closed to traffic,” he said.
