Fisherman robbed of rods, bait and tackle bag

A bizarre robbery baffled police when an angler was held up by apparently armed men.

A FISHERMAN was robbed of a number of items by two armed men on a Durban North beach on Sunday afternoon. Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said the local angler was approached by two men at about 6pm at Beachwood Beach.

“One of the men lifted his shirt and the fisherman thinks he saw the outline of the butt of a gun. The suspects then pushed him out of the way and took two of his rods, bait and his tackle bag before disappearing into the thick dune vegetation along the shore. I’m urging fishermen not to isolate themselves and try not to fish in lonely spots as they could be targeted by criminals,” he said.

No one was hurt in the robbery and the men are still at large.
