Thief nabbed on Blue Lagoon bridge

An iPhone app was used to track a Durban North theft suspect.

A MAN has been arrested for theft after a local security company tracked him down using an application on the victim’s stolen iPhone. The suspect was arrested on the Blue Lagoon Bridge earlier this morning. According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, a car window was smashed and the phone taken in just minutes while the motorist dropped his son off at pre-school.

“With the help of fellow parents and the school’s staff, the owner of the phone managed to enable the iPhone’s app and started tracking the phone. We began tracking and it was revealed that the phone was in the vicinity of the M4 near the bridge over Blue Lagoon.

“Our reaction officers spotted the suspect walking over the bridge and apprehended and arrested him and the iPhone was recovered. The suspect was handed over to the Durban North Police SAPS and charged with theft out of a motor vehicle,” Powell said.
