Illegal connections confiscated by CPF

Live connections ran through popular children's park.

AT least 400 meters of illegally connected cables, running through the Malacca Road Informal Settlement, were removed by members of the Greenwood Park CPF on Wednesday afternoon. What is more, members found the live cables were running through a popular children’s park on Rinaldo Road.

Chairman of the Greenwood Park CPF, Robin Candy said residents of the settlement had dug a shallow trench through Rinaldo Park.

“They then connected their stolen cables to the cable for the power supply to the Park flood lights. Some of the cable was just bare wire. We have children playing in the park so this is totally unacceptable and illegal.

“About 400 metres of cables were removed by the NHW and handed to Greenwood Park SAPS. The incident was reported to the electricit department,” he said.
