Kickstands set to rock 2016
The duo is planning a Cape Town tour for February as well as a set tour in April. They are also working on releasing a new album.
DURBAN North-based band, The Kickstands, have been making waves in both local and international music scenes over the last few months.
Not only have the acoustic duo, comprising of Gary Nixon and Rudi Greyvenstein, performed at the Seychelles’s National Day celebrations in June, but they have also opened for German music duo Milky Chance when they performed in Durban in October.
In November the musicians were invited back to the Seychelles for a second concert performance.
Speaking to the Northglen News last week, Nixon said a lot of doors have opened for them since.
“We’ve been pushed out of our comfort zone and it has pushed us to achieve more next year,” he said.
Nixon said the were planning a Cape Town tour for February as well as a set tour in April. They are also working on releasing a new album, he said.
What’s more, he confirmed that they were set to perform at Splashy Fen alongside Mango Groove, Dan Patlansky and Grassy Spark next year.
“It’s been absolutely incredible, like an awakening of a dream. All our hard work is starting to pay off,” said Nixon.
When asked what set them apart from other bands, Nixon said he believed it was their passion for the music. “We love to perform and we love our music. Our performances are energised and loosely improvised. We’ve played together for so long we are able to read each other on stage and adjust our set accordingly. We started jamming as a hobby and then tried to perform at every gig we could. If you want to hear our music, we will play,” he said.
