Man nabbed in uMhlanga drug bust

Cocaine worth R5 000 seized in the operation by Metro Police's patrol unit.

A MAN was arrested with an estimated R5 000 worth of cocaine on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Friday afternoon. According to Superintendent Sibonelo Mchunu, spokesman for Metro Police, the man was nabbed after an undercover operation by the Metro’s special patrol unit.

“The cocaine has been confiscated and has been sent off for further tests and to be weighed. Working on information we had received we organised a raid and arrested the suspect who was found with a bag of cocaine,” he said. It’s understood the suspect had tried to hide the cocaine under the handbrake of his car.

In May last year, the Hawks raided a drug lab in La Lucia, arresting 24 suspects, and seizing 20 000 straws of heroin with a street value of R500 000. In 2014, police found 100 000 mandrax tablets in an uMhlanga home as well as heroin to the value of R5-million.
