Memorial ride for M4 cyclists

Various cycling clubs and shops in Durban, as well as the Metro Police and the eThekwini Municipality will take part in the memorial ride.

THE Kings Park Cycling Club and the cycling fraternity will unite on Sunday morning outside Bike & Bean to pay tribute to the two cyclists killed on Sunday. Richard da Silva (46) of Glen Anil and Jared Dwyer (36) of Glenwood, were part of a group of around 30 cyclists from the Kings Park Cycling Club on an early morning training ride when disaster struck.

On Wednesday morning the club posted a notice on their Facebook page saying the had planned a memorial ride in conjunction with all the cycling clubs and shops in Durban, as well as the Metro Police and the eThekwini Municipality.

The man arrested in connection with the cyclist’s deaths, Omesh Ramnarain (32), was released on R10 000 bail and faces charges of drunken driving and culpable homicide.

The memorial ride takes place on Sunday, 14 February, at 6am starting at The Bike & Bean restaurant.
