Advertising of black Boerboels illegal
The relevant government department is awaiting a scientific report on the black Boerboel from the South African Boerboel Breeders Society (SABBS), after which it may be lawfully regarded as a breed.

ADVERTISEMENT, appraisal and display of the black Boerboel breed, which appears in the media and other social media platforms, is illegal.
“The so-called black Boerboel is not recognised as a breed in terms of the Animal Improvement Act,” the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said in a statement last week.
The department is still awaiting a scientific report on the black Boerboel from South African Boerboel Breeders Society (SABBS), after which it may be lawfully regarded as a breed.
The exporting of black Boerboels under the Animal Improvement, 1998 (Act No. 62 of 1998) is prohibited.
“The SABBS is also required by being a registered society to observe and uphold the provisions of the Animal Improvement Act, 1998 (Act No. 62 of 1998),” the department said.
The Boerboel also known as the South African mastiff and is a large, Molosser-type breed from South Africa, bred for the purpose of guarding the homestead.
