Pit Bull awareness walk a success

Pit bull walk changes perceptions on Durban's beachfront.

MORE than 50 people and their pooches lined up at Circus Circus on Saturday morning to take part in the Pitbull Awareness Walk. The event, which was organised by Durban North resident, Nicole Linden was about raising awareness regarding the misunderstood and chastised breed of pit bull terriers.

Through her own beloved pit bull, Rocky, she is set on showing people that not all pit bulls are vicious guard dogs.

“There was such an awesome turnout. I’d like to thank everyone who came out, there wasn’t a single incident and everybody who participated were fantastic. I’d also like to thank everyone for their support. The participants made it worth it. I definitely believe that an animal’s temperament has a lot to do with how they are raised. Pitbulls are not naturally aggressive, they are actually very loyal and lovable, and Rocky is testament to this,” she said.

One of the participants of the walk, Tanya Weitsz, also expressed her delight at the event.

“We all enjoyed ourselves. I think we definitely changed a few people’s mindsets about pitties, I can’t wait for the next one,” she said.
