Boy rescued after building collapse

Four-year-old rescued after heavy rains cause a house to collapse in Sea Cow Lake.

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy was rescued in dramatic circumstances after he was trapped in a house that collapsed on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at about 9.40am at the Johanna Road Informal Settlement, in Sea Cow Lake, confirmed Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha.

“Heavy rain had caused a structure collapse while a four-year-old-boy was still in the building made from rocks and wire. Paramedics and the fire services arrived at the scene and had to cut through the wire before they were able to dig through the stones to get to the child.

“A shout of joy was heard when they managed to pull the very traumatise boy from the rubble. The seriously injured child was treated at the scene before he was transported to a Durban hospital,” he said.

Botha hailed the fantastic teamwork between firefighters medics and the public who ensured a safe rescue of the little boy.
