Four suspects arrested after N2 shootout

The men are believed to be part of a car theft syndicate operation in the North Durban area.

FOUR suspects believed to be to part of a car theft ring were arrested after a high-speed chase and shootout on the N2 on Friday morning. One of the suspects was injured in the shootout and the incident occurred near the eMdloti off-ramp.

According to the chairman of the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF, Haden Searles, members of the SAPS Organised Crime Unit received information that a group of suspects had stolen a vehicle from Stanger.

“Police attempted to stop the suspects and a high-speed chase ensued. The suspects, who were in two separate vehicles, opened fire on the police and during return fire one of them was shot and injured in the lower half of his body. All four men were arrested and both the stolen vehicle and the suspects’ vehicle, a golf GTI, was recovered. The men are believed to be part of a car theft syndicate,” Searles said.
