Four arrested for Atasca robbery

An arrest of a robber this week led police to a breakthrough in the case of an armed robbery of a popular Durban North restaurant.

FOUR men have been arrested in connection with a robbery of a popular Durban North restaurant last month. The men are believed to be behind the Atasca robbery on Adelaide Thambo (Kensington) Drive, during which the business was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and various other items in April. It was the arrest of a robber at Kensington Square shopping mall this Monday that led to the arrest of the suspects.

Eddy Stamps of Felix Security said the man robbed a woman who was visiting the public toilets at the mall.

“She had gone into the public toilet when the door was kicked open by the suspect. He accosted her and put his arms around her neck and snatched a necklace she was wearing. He also took R4 010 in cash off her which she had withdrawn and pulled off her rings.

“She screamed for help, which alerted my guards. He was pursued and was eventually apprehended on Chelsea Drive. When he was being interrogated by the police, he admitted that he had taken part in the robbery at the restaurant. I’m really pleased that his arrest has led to three more arrests of wanted criminals,” he said.
