SA’s top wave-riding women host clinic

The country's finest competitors will converge on North Beach on 25 and 26 June to compete in the inaugural 5A South African Body-boarding Association-rated Lizzard Classic.

SOUTH Africa’s top female body-boarders recently gave of their time to host a clinic at North Beach. Top competitors who mentored the youngsters included Durban North’s Debbie Patterson, Pamela Bowren (Stellenbosch), Skye Bothma (Margate) and Sarah Houston (Durban).

The clinic was aimed at anyone interested in learning how to body-board or to improve on their riding – young, old, boys and girls. There was pre-surf stretching, ocean knowledge discussions as well as guiding in the waves.

The group of ladies started doing these clinics in 2015 in order to improve the level of ladies’ riding in South Africa as well as get more women involved in the sport.

The aim of these ‘boogie clinics’ is to be able to share the ‘stoke’ of wave riding with those who have always wanted to get involved in the sport and to grow the sport of body-boarding.

“We would like to thank the sponsors for their generous donation of spot prizes, which will be handed out to a few lucky participants, as well as Joclyn Norton Studios for aiding in the stretching session,” Debbie Patterson said.
