Northwood nets impressive victory on Old Boys’ Day

The Northwood School hockey team won their fourth game in a row.

NORTHWOOD School started its Old Boys’ Day in fine style with an impressive 4-2 hockey victory over Hilton College. The day, which is recognised as one of the highlights of pupils during their high school sporting career, was marked by two goals from Josh Cowell and goals from Cade Leaity and Slater Capell.

This was the Knights’ fourth win in a row after victories against Durban High School (DHS), Glenwood Boys’ High School and Kearsney College.

The first team started off on a really positive note with a high-tempo game. They played some enterprising hockey in the opening minutes, moving the ball really well. The home team was then rewarded with a well-worked team goal from Cade Leaity.

Northwood’s Josh Cowell was once again on the scoreboard with another powerful dragflick to make the score 2-0 going into half-time.

Hilton started the second half on the front foot and came back to make the score 2-2.

The Northwood boys did not give up however; a short corner was awarded to Northwood and Josh Cowell stepped up and scored his second goal of the game to make the score 3-2.

In the last five minutes Northwood pushed hard for a fourth goal. Some well-worked play from a Northwood sixteen-yard hit ended with Slater Capell having a backstick shot from a very acute angle and scoring to make the end score 4-2.
