15 injured in North Coast Road taxi accident

This is the second serious taxi accident in less than a month on North Coast Road.

THE driver of a taxi and 14 passengers were injured in an accident at the traffic lights on the corner of Acutt Avenue and North Coast Road this morning. According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care, it is unclear what caused the crash.

Reports from the scene suggest the taxi was travelling towards the city when the driver allegedly lost control before crashing into a bank.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi had crashed into a bank on the side of the road. A total of 15 patients were found on the pavement having sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics from various ambulance services worked to stabilise the injured on scene before transporting them to various Durban hospitals,” he said.

There have been a number of serious accidents on North Coast Road in the past two weeks. Last week, nine people were injured when a bus crashed into three other vehicles. In May, a street vendor was killed while another had to be airlifted from the busy road after a taxi crashed into a wall. A Greenwood Park resident captured the helicopter airlifting the patient from the scene.
