Man strangled, stabbed in home robbery

The three suspects reportedly tortured the man, demanding cash.

AN Avoca man was brutally assaulted and tortured after three armed men burst into his Matheran Road home on Sunday, 18 June. According to W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the man was strangled, and stabbed in his left thigh. They demanded cash.
The victim later managed to escape his captors while they were ransacking his home, added Audh. The suspects forced their way into the home after knocking on his door and claiming that they had been sent by the victim’s brother.
“He said that one of the unknown men told him that his brother sent them to him to sell him laptops and cell phones. The complainant then further alleged that he found this strange as his brother did not know where he lived and also that at this point one of the men asked him for a glass of water. When he turned around to fetch the water, it was then that the suspects forced the door open and threatened him with knives,” he said.
The suspects fled the scene with a cell phone, laptop and other computer accessories. The men are still at large. Cases of house robbery and grievous bodily harm have been opened at the station, confirmed Audh.
