Durban North gymnastics club members off to USA

Three members of the club will be taking part in an elite training camp in Nashville.

DURBAN North Gymnastics Club members, Daisy Dixon, Erin Bell and Andrew Flynn, are going to the USA in July.
The junior gymnasts were rewarded for their years of hard training by being selected to take part in an elite training camp in Nashville. All three are ranked number one in their respective age group in KZN and are regular top six finishers in national championships.

“I’m looking forward to it, I’ve been training really hard and putting in a lot of hours this year. My aim is to represent South Africa in the Commonwealth Games in 2022 in Durban. Getting to train in the USA is an amazing opportunity to see where I am in terms of international standards,” said Flynn, who is a four-time national champ,” he said.

His words were echoed by Daisy, who said she was surprised when she got the news she would be travelling to Nashville.

“I’m excited and nervous but I can’t wait for July. I’ve always loved gymnastics and to be able to travel to the country where so many of my idols compete in is amazing. It’s a big opportunity for us to learn as much as we can, we are there for two weeks. Our coach, Arge, has been great and everyone at the club has been encouraging us and backing us,” Dixon said.

The coach of the club said he was proud of his gymnasts.

“The invitation to train with an elite squad under the guidance of some of America’s top coaches is an acknowledgement of their talent and skill level. It’s fantastic for the club and for them to experience this,” said coach of the gymnasts, Arge Nienhuser.
