Gateway on fire

There has been no reported injuries at the shopping centre.

A FIRE has broken out at Gateway Theatre of Shopping above My Diners. According to management, the centre has been evacuated and members from the Durban North and Umhlanga Fire Station are in attendance. There has been no reported injuries but plumes of black smoke can be seen from outside the mall.

The fire originated in the Food Court area. According to Marhsall Securtiy’s Kyle van Reenen, the fire broke out in the Food Court.

“It broke out in the food court area is believed to have started in an extractor system of one of the fast food outlets. The affected area of the mall has been evacuated and no injuries have been reported thus far,” he said.

The fire comes just hours after an armed robbery at a jewellery store.  One shot was fired in the robbery in which the three suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
