Man robbed at gunpoint on Umhlanga Rocks Drive mugging

The suspects unlaced the victim's takkies and tied him up.

A MAN was robbed by three suspects on the corner of Village Way and Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Tuesday evening.  One of the men, according to Capt Raymond Deokaran spokesman of the Durban North SAPS, was armed. The incident occurred at about 9pm.

“The victim said he was walking up Village Way towards the robots when he was approached by three men. One of them produced a handgun and demanded his valuables. They stole his cellphone and a small amount of cash. The men decided to humiliate the victim, they unlaced his takkies and tied him up. The suspects escaped on foot. He managed to undo the knots and has opened a case of robbery at the station,” he said.

Deokaran, said while the crime was unrelated to the spike in muggings targeting domestic workers, he urged people to be vigilant.

“If you are walking around, try, where possible to walk in large groups. The criminals saw the victim as an easy target.”
