Manhunt underway for armed gang

The men fled with surveillance equipment and an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing a Springfield restaurant.

POLICE are still on the hunt for a gang of seven armed men who robbed a restaurant in Springfield Park on Tuesday morning. The suspects fled the scene after they forced the owner to open the safe at gunpoint.

The owner of the eatery claims that the nightmare began at around 11am when two men walked in and ordered cool drinks. He said one of the suspects suddenly pointed a firearm at him and demanded to see the safe, said W/O Leon Audh, of Greenwood Park SAPS.

“The victim added that five more armed suspects then entered the business premises and that they had forced him into the storeroom. Whilst in the storeroom the perpetrators demanded that he open the safe,” he said.

The men disconnected the surveillance footage before they fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, cell phones, liquor and CCTV equipment.

A silver VW Polo was used as a getaway vehicle in the incident.
