Join ‘Spook’tacular charity cycle for CHOC
All proceeds will be donated to the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC).
THERE is bound to be some jaw dropping and spooktacular costumes next Sunday as costumed cyclists gear up for the charity ride for The Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC). The event is being hosted by Green Hub owner and Durban North resident, Aroon Patel is hoping the local community will come out, support and dress-up for the event.
All proceeds will be donated to CHOC. The event takes place on Sunday, 30 October and registration will take place from 5.30am to 6.30am at the Green Hub Cafe.
There are three route options, the 25 kilometre route from Blue Lagoon to uMhlanga and back.
The intermediate course, 45 kilometres from Blue Lagoon to eMdloti bridge via uMhlanga and back.
The final route is for advanced riders and will follow a 75 kilometre route from Blue Lagoon to Ballito (Zimbali circle) via uMhlanga and back.
Patel is tackling the 25 kilometre cycle on an ElliptiGo bicycle and will be dressed in the Friesian bovine patterned CHOC cow suits.
“We are urging people interested in doing the 25 kilometre route to dress up, it’s much shorter and will be easier to complete in a costume. I’ve chosen the ElliptiGo because it combines the best of running, cycling and the elliptical trainer to deliver a low-impact, high-performance workout. The suits are hot and it’s a struggle and battle to cycle in them and it reminds you in some way of the struggles little children go through in their fight against cancer.
“Early detection is key. Raising awareness through the CHOC cows is about saving lives. Cancer sees no creed or status, it affects millions of people and we need to raise more awareness and educate more people. It’s a fun way to give back and make a difference to children fighting cancer,” he said.
Each route will have ride marshals and a safety vehicle following the last rider.
The cost to enter is R50 per person and each rider will receive a voucher for coffee and muffin to be redeemed at the cafe.
