Several stores closed after La Lucia Mall fire causes power outage

The cause of the fire has yet to be established confirms Mall management.

SEVERAL stores at La Lucia Mall have been closed for the day after a fire broke out in the transformer room last night. There were no casualties and damage was quickly contained just after 9.30pm on Monday night. Centre Management have said the mall is completely safe and is open today, however, the disruption to its electricity means that shops in several areas of the mall will be temporarily closed until power can be restored to them.

While the situation is still being fully assessed, reports confirm the fire started in an electrical transformer room at the mall.

“Security and emergency personnel reacted swiftly to confine the fire and thankfully it didn’t spread. Damage is limited to the transformer room,” says La Lucia Mall Portfolio Manager Vanessa Blevins. “We would like to thank emergency services, security staff and our own management team for their professional handling of this situation.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be established. Cleanup and assessments for repairs began early this morning at the mall.

The mall should be open for normal trade from Wednesday, 18 January 2017.
