Trish still a bowls ace at 95

‘I can't sit around, I love keeping active and bowls has been one way to do that."

THERE was reason to celebrate last week as Northlands Bowling Club member, Trish Campbell, turned 95. The club duly obliged with a special lawn bowls cake and invited Campbell’s family including her great grandchildren. Remarkably, Campbell does not look like she is five years shy of being a century old. Not only is she the oldest playing member of the club, but she has also maintained her independence. She is still able to safely drive her car and read without glasses.

“I can’t sit around, I love keeping active and bowls has been one way to do that. The club members are just wonderful. It’s the enduring friendships that make playing here worth it. I don’t feel old at all, I have bowls and people, like my family and my friends to keep me young,” she said.

Campbell said she began playing bowls for a long time.

“My husband was the one that introduced me to the game. I was reluctant at first to play but once I began I couldn’t stop. I’m not bad but I’m not the most brilliant,” said the modest nonagenarian.

Campbell attributed her longevity to living in moderation and having a positive attitude.
