Greenwood Park SAPS conduct random school searches

Several items were confiscated in the search operation.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS on Thursday began a school searches initiative in their policing precinct in order to look out for weapons and illegal substances. According to W/O Leon Audh, station spokesman, school safety plans were recently drafted and the station has agreed to conduct random searches at these facilities.

“We’ve already begun our initiative and pupils were searched for illegal substances and dangerous weapons. Although we did not find any drugs we did find dangerous weapons. We found a screwdriver, cigarettes and a wire stripper. Several cell phones and lighters were also confiscated and handed over to the school.

“We want this to be a warning to school learners that we will be continuing our efforts. This crime prevention strategy was well received by the community as it plays a part in ensuring the safety of the learners, educators and the community,” he said.
