One killed in head-on collision on M4

The road was closed for over 2 hours to allow for emergency services to work and authorities to conduct necessary investigations.

ONE person was killed in a horrific head-on collision on the M4 on Sunday night. Two vehicles, a Mercedes and Audi collided head-on. According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the cause of the crash will form part of the police investigation and comment.

“The drivers of both vehicles were found trapped in the crumpled remains of their cars with life threatening injuries. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life while medics worked tirelessly to stabilise the critically wounded men.

“Tragically the driver of the Audi TT, a man in his thirties, died at the scene due to the extensive injuries that he sustained. The driver of the Mercedes, a man in his twenties, was in a critical condition,” he said.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the accident occurred just after 8pm.

“The road was closed for over 2 hours to allow for emergency services to work and authorities to conduct necessary investigations. The cause of the collision will investigated by the SAPS,” he said.
