RESIDENTS of Danville Avenue can breathe a sight of relief after the City’s Ethekwini Traffic Authority (ETA) approved the installation of three speed humps on the busy road. The traffic calming measures which were given the go-ahead in 2014 had to be halted due to a lack of money available. However, Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, said that he had received written confirmation that the speed humps would be included in the budget for the 2017/18 period.

Ryley, said he was pleased the issue was finally being addressed.

“There has been a number of accidents on the road and I’ve engaged the ETA on numerous occasions to implement some sort of traffic calming measure to curb speeding both on this road and on Mackeurtan Ave. the department has agreed to the installation due to the close proximity of Danville Girls’ High School. With the narrowing of lanes at the bottom of Danville Avenue and the installation of the humps, I believe this will go some way in curbing the frequency of speeding motorists on the road,” he said.
