Man arrested for King Shaka officer’s murder

The 29-year-old suspect was apprehended for the murder of the police officer stationed at King Shaka Airport.

A MAN has been arrested for the murder of a police officer stationed at the King Shaka International Airport. The 29-year-old suspect was apprehended for the murder of constable Joseph Mondli Chiliza (38), which occurred in February. Members of the Organised Crime Unit as well as members from King Shaka International Airport nabbed the suspect at his residence in Folweni.

The suspect appeared in Nsimbini magistrate Court and has been remanded in custody until 30 March for a bail application.

It is alleged the suspect shot the officer and dumped his body on an embankment in Folweni. Chiliza was on his way to work when he was attacked by the suspect. His service firearm was stolen. Chiliza sustained gunshot wounds to the head, neck and chest.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended the members for arresting the suspect.

“We’re very pleased with the work and dedication shown by the members and we will ensure that the suspect is successfully prosecuted,” he said.
