96 vehicles stopped in uMhlanga police operation

DURBAN North SAPS crime prevention unit held a cordon and search on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Thursday afternoon. The two hour operation was aimed at checking for vehicles used by criminals in various house break-ins. A total of 96 drivers were stopped and were warned for minor traffic offenses.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the SAPS, said the station was concentrating on suspicious vehicles.

“We’ve had a lot of break-ins during the day as well as thefts out of motor vehicles. We are searching for suspicious vehicles and during our operation we also found drivers breaking the law. This is also part of our visible policing and crime prevention for the year ahead. There will be more daylight operations such as this on different roads in the area,” he said.
