City works round the clock to repair uMhlanga promenade
On Monday the last of the sea sand around the lighthouse was removed.
THE uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) has praised the work of municipal workers who worked round the clock to repair the uMhlanga promenade which was damaged by high sea swells last week.
The promenade, near the Lighthhouse, was affected in particular with sea sand covering the walkway. Several concrete covers along the walkway were also damaged.
Cara Reilly of the uMhlanga UIP praised the City as well as UIP officials who helped out.
“It was all hands on deck this weekend as the UIP and eThekwini Municipality worked to reinstate the beach and promenade after high seas damaged the concrete seating and littered the beaches with debris. On Monday the last of the sand around the lighthouse was removed,” she said.
This follows eMdloti Beach’s walkway which was severely damaged on Friday night after largely swells weakened the foundation of the road. The sand beneath North Beach Road towards the cul-da-sac is fast eroding and photos appeared on social media the next morning showing the damage.
