4 injured after truck overturns on M4

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

FOUR people were injured, one seriously so when a truck overturned on the M4 near La Mercy. The accident occurred at about 10am today (12 September).

According to Nick Dollman, spokesman for Netcare 911, the accident will be a subject of a police investigation.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of the 10 tonne sand truck lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. Paramedics from Netcare 911 and other ambulances services attended to the four injured people at the scene, one of who was seriously injured. Three other people sustained moderate injuries. The patients have been transported by ambulances to hospital for further assessment and care,” he said.

The M4 has been subject to much criticism lately with residents suggesting a bigger police presence was needed to curb the high accidents on the busy freeway.

Two weeks ago, four people were killed over the space of two days on the Ruth First Highway.
