What to expect from the integrated Facebook Messenger app

Facebook has relaunched and renamed its equivalent of WhatsApp Status and Instagram Stories. Messenger Day will now form part of Stories and has a bunch of new features.

Messenger Day used to be a standalone feature but in its relaunch, Facebook has integrated it into Stories, the social networking app’s version of Snapchat.

Facebook announced on 13 November: “Starting today, we are introducing a new experience called Stories, connecting Messenger Day and Facebook Stories.”

Any photos or videos you add to your Stories will appear on both Facebook and Messenger, and will be shared with the same audience across both.

“We heard from people that they would often share on Facebook or Messenger, save the photo or video, and then post to the other. Now, it’s quicker and easier to capture and share moments as they happen with the people you care about most,” they said on their Messenger page.

Here are a few features of the Facebook Stories:

1. Capture and share memories from your video chats on Messenger

During a video chat, simply tap the camera icon to take a photo screenshot of your video chat. You can save the photo to your phone’s camera roll and from there, post to your social media accounts and/or send to people you’re chatting with.

2. Make payments and send money on Messenger

Facebook has partnered with PayPal to allow users to make peer-to-peer payments in Messenger to people in the UK and France. This makes it convenient and easier to send or receive money with friends and family using your Messenger chats.

3. Learn how to do anything from Messenger’s How-to guide

With the wikiHow bot for Messenger, you can learn how to do just about anything. For example, you can ask the bot a question like “how to remove a coffee stain from my shirt” and read related articles. You can also select “How to…” and browse popular how to tips.
