ETHEKWINI Municipality’s Electricity Unit has upgraded its meter reading SMS service and switched over to the new short SMS code 30909 from 1 December 2017.
The phased-out meter reading SMS number, 083 700 0819 is no longer operational. Normal standard rates will apply to the usage of the SMS service.

A customer should include his/her name, the property’s account number, the meter reading and the contact number. An sms with the reading should be sent four days prior to the bill-date on the account.
The Municipality encourages customers who want to avoid an estimated bill to use the sms service.
