Armed gang storms Somerset Park home

The gang made off with a safe and several other valuables from the home.

A GANG of five men robbed a Somerset Park home on Midsomer Crescent on Saturday afternoon. According to police, the gang derailed the driveway gate to gain access to the home. The homeowner, who was at home at the time, heard a noise and opened the front door to investigate and was confronted by an armed suspect.

“As she opened the door one of the suspects confronted her by pointing a firearm at her demanding that she open the security gate. The suspects then entered and ransacked the entire house taking along the safe and other valuables,” Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security said.

The gang were seen fleeing the scene in a black luxury sedan-type vehicle.

The armed home invasion was the fourth reported in seven days in the north Durban area. Two of the most serious incidents occurred on Thursday last week where a Sunningdale homeowner was stabbed five times by a suspect in a robbery.  A few hours later an 81-year-old man was pistol whipped by armed suspects in a robbery on Edgeley Road.
