Driver crashes into uMngeni River in early morning accident

A secondary collision also occurred on Riverside Road close to the first accident scene.

A DRIVER escaped serious injury after an accident on Riverside Road early on Friday morning. According to reports, the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid a vehicle in front him before crashing into the bushes along Riverside Road and sliding into the uMngeni River.

“The driver was travelling from Chris Hani Road (North Coast) going towards Hypermarket-by-the-Sea. Thankfully he escaped serious injury and managed to get out of the vehicle and swim to safety before it partially submerged. A secondary collision also occurred on the same road but it is unclear if the incidents were related,” said Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen.

He added salvage operations were underway.

Various services are on scene including Crisis Medical, Rescue Care Paramedics and Net Tow.
