Five dead in horror Nandi Drive crash

The road has been closed while rescue personnel work on the injured and traffic has been severely affected.

FIVE people have been killed in a horror collision on Queen Nandi Drive on Monday morning. According to Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care Paramedics the accident involved two taxis and a truck. A total of 13 people were injured in the accident.

The accident occurred on Queen Nandi Drive and Quarry Park close in River Horse Valley. Multiple ambulance services are on scene including Netcare 911.

“Two taxis and a truck collided in the accident. Four people were tragically killed in the crash, while a fifth critically injured patient, died on scene. One of the injured patients was airlifted to hospital. The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage and is being investigated,” he said.

Traffic has been severely affected.

According to Shaun Herbst of Netcare 911, all the patients were treated on scene and transported to hospital by several ambulances that were on scene.

“Two of the bodies had to be removed from the wreckage by the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue using the ‘Jaws of Life’,” he said.

The accident comes a day after a horror crash on Helpmekaar Road in Ladysmith where nine people were tragically killed.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage and is being investigated. The crash involved a taxi and a bakkie, with six people in the taxi being killed and another three in the bakkie losing their lives.
