Five injured in serious M4 crash

It is unclear what caused the accident.

FIVE people were injured in a three car collision on the M4 Ruth First Highway near the Broadway off-ramp. According to Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst, the accident occurred at about 1.10pm.

“Reports from the scene indicate that three vehicles travelling towards the City were involved in a collision which left five people injured. Ethekwini Fire and Rescue used the Jaws of Life to free some of the occupants trapped in the wreckage, one of whom was a minor. All five patients have been transported by various ambulances to hospital for further assessment and care. The Durban North SAPS was on scene and will be investigating,” he said.

Traffic was severely affected by the accident scene.

This is the first serious accident on the M4 since the tragic deaths of Shaylen Mudali and Suveer Sookoo who burned to death after a crash last month. Friends and family of the two men who were killed in a horror accident paid tribute to the victims with a touching video.
