Woman mauled to death by pit bulls in Greenwood Park

The 67-year-old was declared dead on scene by paramedics.

A WOMAN has been mauled to death by two pit bulls at a home in Greenwood Park today. The incident occurred on Heather Grove at about midday confirmed Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a 67-year-old woman was attacked by two pitbulls and suffered fatal injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do to assist the lady and she was declared deceased on arrival. It is believed the female is a family member of the owner of the property and known to the dogs, however this is unconfirmed at this stage,” he said.

Tanya Fleischer of the Durban & Coast SPCA confirmed that the dogs involved in the incident were euthanised.

“We received a call to collect the pit bulls and have euthanised the dogs as per the owner’s request,” she said.

In 2016, former Durban North resident, Nicole Linden, organised a pit bull awareness walk along the Durban Beachfront in an effort to raise positive awareness regarding the misunderstood and chastised breed of pit bull terriers.
