Cycle Sunday celebrates one year anniversary with next event
Cycle Sunday celebrates its first anniversary in Durban, marking a year of car-free recreation, healthy living and community connection.
THE M4 Ruth First Highway will be closed to traffic from Moses Mabhida Stadium to Portland Drive, uMhlanga for the Cycle Sunday initiative on Sunday, October 25.
The event, first held in October last year, sees cyclists of all ages and skill levels enjoy a safe, traffic-free ride on the M4, starting at 05:00.
The event is presented by Cycle Lab and Peschl Sports, owned by local resident Shaun Peschl.

This is the fifth Cycle Sunday event and this month, the initiative celebrates its one year anniversary.
“The milestone marks a year of bringing the community together through accessible, car-free recreation, healthy living and a shared love of the outdoors,” explained Peschl. “Cycle Sunday has grown beyond a cycling event into a celebration of community, health and the incredible outdoor lifestyle that Durban offers.
“We wanted to create an opportunity for people to enjoy cycling in a safe, welcoming environment while bringing families and the community together. Reaching our first anniversary is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to seeing the initiative continue to grow.”
The event also encourages schools across KZN to participate, with a R10 000 cash prize up for grabs for the school recording the highest attendance.
The initiative also aims to introduce learners to cycling in a safe environment, build confidence and road awareness, and encourage families to embrace active lifestyles together.
Cycle Sunday is deliberately non-competitive, welcoming children from the age of eight to ride alongside parents and teachers.
