Fuel thief strikes at North Coast Road garage
The driver of the Ford Ranger sped off after filling R1235.29 petrol in his car.
IN the midst of escalating petrol prices, Greenwood Park Police have warned petrol stations of criminals stealing petrol. This follows an incident where an unknown man fled from a garage on North Coast Road without settling his petrol bill.
According to Greenwood Park Police spokesperson, Sergeant Vincent Mthembu, the suspect who was driving a blue Ford Ranger, fled the scene with over a thousand Rands worth of fuel.
“At about 6.20pm on Thursday last week, the suspect went to the BP Garage on North Coast Road. It is alleged by the complainant that he was on duty as a petrol attendant at the above mentioned garage when a driver in a blue Ford Ranger came to fill petrol.
“The complainant said after filling the car, the driver gave him a bank card to make the payment. When the attendant was about to hand the machine to the driver so he could punch in his pin code, the driver drove off without paying the amount of R1235.29,” said Mthembu.

The petrol theft came as the price of fuel rocketed by 26 cents a litre.
Last month in a Facebook post, government gave motorists tips on how they could save petrol.

Mthembu warned petrol attendants to be extra vigilant, saying, “Maybe it would be safer for petrol attendants to come up with ways to bind the customer to settling their bill.”
