UK family honours daughter’s memory following uMhlanga tragedy

Her parents, Noeleen and Bob Moodliar handed over a defibrillator and a glass case which would house the machine to uMhlanga lifeguards last week.

THE family of UK resident, Sinead Moodliar, who drowned in uMhlanga in December last year, honoured her memory last week by donating an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Her parents, Noeleen and Bob Moodliar, met with uMhlanga Beach lifeguards, investigating officer at the Durban North SAPS and a few friends and family near the uMhlanga lifeguard tower on Friday to present the handover of the defibrillator and a glass case which would house the machine.

Sinead Moodliar was rescued by lifeguards on uMhlanga Beach after being dragged out to sea on 26 December 2018.
The 19-year-old, who was on holiday in uMhlanga, was admitted to hospital in a critical but stable condition but later passed away.

Her father, Bob said the donation of the AED was so Sinead’s life was not in vain.

“We wish to leave a lasting memory of Sinead that will help aid in saving anyone in trouble with a heart attack or someone in a drowning incident. We hope we can reassure swimmers, walkers and users of uMhlanga Beach that they will be safer than ever before,” he explained.

“Sinead’s passing has been a devastating and heart-wrenching experience for my family and friends but it has warmed our hearts to see the love and support from everyone. This donation was made possible by generous donations from friends and family in the UK.”
