#ChilliChallenge brings the heat with blankets for the homeless
Participants are encouraged to post videos of themselves eating a chilli and then nominate their friends to do the same.
WITH an estimateed 6000 homeless people in Durban, 8000 to 20 000 in Johannesburg and close to 5000 in Cape Town, Brand Hubb has decided to raise money to purchase and donate at least 2000 thick 1,5kg blankets to organisations that help the less fortunate across the country during the month of July. Running alongside the initiative is their #ChilliChallenge campaign which aims to draw attention to the cause.
Participants are encouraged to post videos of themselves eating a chilli and then nominate their friends to do the same with the hashtag #ChilliChallenge before heading to the Brand Hubb website, to donate money toward the blanket purchases. There are also daily prizes valued at R200 000.

Rob Anderson, founder of Brand Hubb said the statistics are a reminder to provide the homeless with support throughout the year, but more so during the cold winter months.
“Many people don’t realise that something as small as a blanket can make a huge difference to a person who has very little. As a business, we are always looking for ways to give back to people and we are inviting corporates, agencies and individuals to help us by donating a monetary contribution towards the cause. We hope that by providing the disadvantaged with blankets, we can play a small part in aiding those who need it most during these cold months,” added Anderson.

“The Chilli Challenge is a great way for us to build social awareness, rooted in the spirit of giving back. We want to grab people’s attention in a way that makes you realise that there are thousands of people who are in need of warmth this winter. We are proud to be the organisers of this initiative,” he said.
