uMhlanga’s Oceans Development construction recommences
The project worth R3.8 billion is the largest mixed used development in SA consisting of the Raddison Blu Hotel, a mall and 600 apartments.
CONSTRUCTION of the Oceans Development has recommenced with an accelerated programme said Oceans Umhlanga chairman, Vivian Reddy.
The announcement comes after construction of the development stalled in October last year.
At the time, the Northglen News was told the project halted ‘due to certain complications which caused the developer to renegotiate’. Work was then supposed to begin in February this year, however that failed to materialise.
In a statement sent to Northglen News, Reddy said the Oceans development “was beset by problems when two of the construction companies one in liquidation, and the other in business rescue proceeding caused a halt to the major integrated development.”

When the newspaper visited the development last week, construction workers were busy on site.
Reddy said he and co-developer Rob Alexander had ‘worked tirelessly to overcome the problems encountered on this landmark project.’
“The Oceans Mall is being negotiated with construction expected to be completed by first quarter of 2021. The mall will have several international brands similar to the Diamond Walk at Sandton City. The developers believe that this award winning world class project will add great value to properties in lower uMhlanga once completed. The Raddison Blu Hotel and apartments are on track to be completed by September 2020,” he said.
