Trick-or-treat at Durban North haunted house

Children can enjoy trick-or-treating from shop to shop in the centre.

A SPOOKY haunted house and a round of trick-or-treating is on the cards for the community children as the Kensington Square celebrates Halloween in style on Saturday, 26 October from 10am with the trick-or-treating starting at 3.30pm.

Parents will need to participate along with their children, especially if they are very young. Top comic artist, Jason Masters who draws for DC comics and Marvel will be at the event from 1pm until 3pm to host a Q&A session and Durban-based comic artists, Luke Molver will give a talk for pop-culture and comic fans to enjoy. Brains behind the operation is Shaun Burgin who owns comic book store, Kapow.

“It’s going to be the best Halloween party for children in Durban, and it’s free,” he said.

Children can enjoy trick-or-treating from shop to shop in the centre.

“What we have done is invited each shop if they want to be involved. If they are, they will stay open and there will be a character like a witch or a zombie in the shop and the children will have to do a quest. They have to go to each shop to get sweets. They will get a sticker from that shop which they will stick on a card that is given to them when they register. Once they complete the card, they come to Kapow on the second floor for their final prize. They have to brave the haunted house to get their final prize,” said Burgin.

He explained that when children enter to take part in the quest, parents will receive a ticket for a lucky draw, but participants must be dressed to impress to qualify.

“As long as you come dressed up, you can get a ticket entry into the lucky draw. You can just have a witch’s hat or go all out with a full outfit and a broomstick, a suit of armour or a simple mask- you can put in as little or as much effort as you want, but as long as you are dressed up, you will stand a chance to win a prize,” added Burgin.
