A BackaBuddy campaign launched in support of Warrant Officer Karl Sander has reached a significant milestone, with R656 064 transferred into an attorney’s trust account.

The campaign, which gained widespread support from members of the public, was launched to assist Sander, who has dedicated decades to serving the country.

According to an update on the campaign, Sander and the organiser, Kyle van Reenen, worked closely with BackaBuddy over the past month to ensure the funds were transferred in accordance with the necessary requirements and that the process remained transparent.

Cox Yeats Attorneys also assisted with the process, providing guidance to ensure the transfer was handled correctly.

The campaign initially focused on replacing a coffee machine, but quickly grew into a broader show of public support for Sander and his years of service.

“R656 064 later, South Africans have certainly made their voices heard,” said Van Reenen.

“The funds will remain in the attorney’s trust account while the next steps are determined. Further updates are expected on how the money will be allocated and utilised,” he added.

Van Reenen thanked those who contributed to the campaign, shared it on social media, sent messages of support or helped bring attention to Sander’s story.

He added that the milestone demonstrated the willingness of South Africans to support those who have dedicated themselves to serving others.
