Objections lodged against La Lucia developments

Chairperson of the La Lucia Residents Association, Linzi du Preez, said residents in the area opposed both proposed developments for various reasons.

MEMBERS of the La Lucia Residents Association (LLRA) officially handed in their objections to oppose an application to increase the height restriction requested by Growthpoint Properties and multi-million rand proposal to construct an office park and a residential complex in the area (at The La Lucia Mall site).

Earlier this year, Growthpoint Properties set out its intentions to develop two sites at The La Lucia Mall which included a R95-million office development (near the Virgin Active gym) and a 10 floor high residential complex at the site of the free parking lot of the mall on William Campbell Drive.

Growthpoint Properties has said the developments are still in the design concept stage and under consideration by the City.

Chairperson of the LLRA, Linzi du Preez, said residents in the area opposed both proposed developments for various reasons.

“In all we’ve had 432 objectors who are opposed to the developments. Besides affecting residents’ sea views and increasing pressure on the already strained infrastructure in the area, we believe the developments will negatively impact property values and change the nature of La Lucia.

“Our biggest gripe with the proposed residential development is being put through as a scheme amendment rather than a rezoning. We feel Growthpoint Properties can build what they require within the space they’ve got, they don’t need to change their height restrictions,” she said.
