Greenwood Park residents rally behind fire survivors
At this stage the cause of the fire is unknown.
A FIRE swept through an informal settlement on Sanderson Place in Greenwood Park at around 1am on Thursday morning. The settlement is home to an excess of 1000 people, living in 250 shacks said a local resident, Duane Bengtson, who lives a few doors down from the settlement.
“Fortunately there have been no injuries reported. We are trying to rally together to collect food and clothes for the survivors. The fire is still smouldering,” he said.

Spokesperson for the Greenwood Park CPF, Kavir Ramchunder confirmed that no injuries were reported to him.
“We have no idea how the fire started, but fire trucks did come. We are collecting blankets, ready to eat food and clothes for children under 7 years old,” he said.
